Scheme Overview
Atal Pension Yojana is a pension scheme focused on the unorganized sector workers administered by the Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority (PFRDA). Under APY, subscribers receive a guaranteed minimum monthly pension of ₹1,000, ₹2,000, ₹3,000, ₹4,000, or ₹5,000 from the age of 60 years till death, depending on their chosen contribution tier and entry age.

Eligibility Criteria
Ensure you satisfy all the following government conditions before applying:
- 1Any Indian citizen aged between 18 and 40 years.
- 2Must have a savings bank account or post office savings bank account with auto-debit facility.
- 3Cannot be an income tax payer (effective from October 1, 2022, income taxpayers are not eligible to join APY).
- 4Must not have joined another statutory social security pension scheme under central rules.

How to Apply (Official Process)
Approach Your Bank Branch / Netbanking
Visit the bank or post office where you hold a savings account, or log in to your bank's netbanking or mobile banking app.
Fill APY Registration Form
Select APY enrollment, choose your desired monthly pension slab (₹1,000 to ₹5,000), and contribution frequency (monthly, quarterly, or half-yearly).
Authorize Auto-Debit
Provide auto-debit consent so the required monthly premium is automatically debited from your savings account.
Receive PRAN Number
Upon successful registration, you will receive an SMS confirmation with your Permanent Retirement Account Number (PRAN).
Download e-PRAN Card
Visit npscra.nsdl.co.in to download your APY e-PRAN subscriber card for future reference.
Frequently Asked Questions about Atal Pension
Can an income taxpayer join Atal Pension Yojana?
No. From October 1, 2022, any citizen who is or has been an income-tax payer according to the Income-tax Act is not eligible to join APY.
What happens if I stop paying monthly contributions in APY?
The account remains active but attracts a nominal penalty of ₹1 to ₹10 per month until overdue contributions are settled.
