Complete Guide to National Scholarship Portal (NSP): Registration, OTR, Documents & Verification

Comprehensive walkthrough for school, college and university students applying for Central and State scholarships on scholarships.gov.in using the new One-Time Registration (OTR).

The National Scholarship Portal (NSP) serves as the common gateway for over 100 Central, UGC, AICTE, and State scholarship schemes. Since academic year 2024-25, a One-Time Registration (OTR) with Aadhaar face authentication is mandatory before applying. OTR needs an Android phone with the AadhaarFaceRD app; if face authentication keeps failing, you can complete OTR at a Common Service Centre (CSC). ### Crucial Things to Check Before Applying 1. **Aadhaar Seeding**: Ensure your personal savings bank account is mapped on the NPCI Aadhaar mapper. 2. **AISHE/UDISE Code**: Know your educational institution's official AISHE (Higher Education) or UDISE (School) registration code. 3. **Single Application Rule**: You cannot receive two government scholarships for the exact same academic course.

Step-by-Step Walkthrough

Step 1: Generate NSP One-Time Registration (OTR)

Download the 'NSP OTR' mobile app and 'AadhaarFaceRd' app from Google Play Store. Complete face authentication to generate your unique 14-digit OTR number.

Step 2: Login to NSP Student Portal

Go to scholarships.gov.in. Click 'Apply for Scholarship', select 'Fresh Application' or 'Renewal', and enter your OTR ID and password.

Step 3: Fill Educational and Course Details

Search and select your school/college from the AISHE database. Enter your course, year of admission, previous class marks percentage, and annual parental income.

Step 4: Upload Required Certificates

Upload clean PDF copies of your Institutional Bonafide Certificate, Income Certificate issued by Revenue Authority, and Caste/Minority certificate if applicable.

Step 5: Track Two-Tier Verification

Submit the form. Your institution verifies your application first (Level 1), followed by District/State Nodal Officer verification (Level 2) before PFMS disburses funds.

Common Questions

Can I edit my NSP application after final submission?

You cannot edit directly after final submission. However, you can request your Institute Nodal Officer to 'Defect' the application back to you so you can modify and re-submit.

How long does it take for scholarship funds to credit?

Disbursements generally start from December through March in batches via DBT PFMS directly into the student's Aadhaar-seeded bank account.
