Scheme Overview
The Viksit Bharat – Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act, known as VB-G RAM G, replaced the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) with effect from 1 July 2026. It guarantees at least 125 days of unskilled wage work a year to every rural household whose adult members want it, up from 100 days under MGNREGA. Wage rates are notified state by state, and wages are paid by DBT into the worker's bank or post office account. To protect farm labour, states can pause public works for up to 60 days in a year during peak sowing and harvest seasons.

Eligibility Criteria

How to Apply (Official Process)
Register Your Household
Apply at the Gram Panchayat (or through a CSC / UMANG where available) with the names, ages and photos of adult members.
Get the Job Card
The Gram Panchayat issues a job card (Gramin Rozgar Guarantee Card) within 15 days. Existing MGNREGA job cards with completed e-KYC remain valid until new cards are issued.
Ask for Work
Submit a written demand for work at the Gram Panchayat, stating how many days you want. Ask for a dated receipt.
Work and Get Paid
Work must be given within 15 days. Attendance is recorded and wages are credited to your account, normally within 15 days of the work.
Frequently Asked Questions about VB-G RAM G
Is MGNREGA still running?
No. From 1 July 2026 MGNREGA was replaced by the VB-G RAM G Act, which guarantees 125 days of work instead of 100.
Do I need a new job card?
Existing MGNREGA job cards stay valid for holders who have completed e-KYC until new cards are issued. Ask your Gram Panchayat about the replacement schedule.
Why was there no work during harvest season?
The Act lets states pause public works for up to 60 days a year in peak sowing and harvest periods, so that farm labour is available.
